Beauty and the Belly Dancer! Performance Make-up Guide Applying make-up is an important part of the performer’s trade. It enhances your natural assets and gives you a ‘polished’ and ‘professional’ look, even if you are an amateur. Never perform without make-up, even if you want to look ‘natural’ you should still wear foundation and a little eye and lip colour. The audience will expect you to look glamorous and mysterious and make-up will help you to achieve this. It takes practice to get it right, but it’s worth investing a little time and money to get good results. However, you don't have to invest in the expensive make-up brands for a good look. Many of the high street ranges offer a wide selection of products that work well, and will suit all budgets. The following is only a general guide, designed to give advice on application rather than colours to wear etc. If you want further advice on colours etc., contact me about a personal consultation. Many of the cosmetics departments in the big department stores have trained advisors who are only to pleased to help you decide on the right colours, foundations etc. Don’t be afraid to ask for help that’s what they are there for! Don't let them pressure you into buying a product immediately either, you will need time to go away and think about it, and to see that you don't get a skin reaction to the product. Walk away from any sales advisor who pressures you to buy. Remember: you can while away hours in front of your mirror practising– which is part of the fun! Afra offers workshops in performance make-up technique. They are especially popular as a pre-haflah session. By the end of the workshop everyone is wearing their make-up and ready to party! |
