I have been dancing and performing MED dance now for 8 years. I have always danced; I did the usual tap and ballet lessons when young. I also did Irish Dancing and Ballroom, and then of course there were my go-go dancing years!
When I found MED I knew I had come home. My teacher over the 8 years had been, and still is Teresa Griffin (Aziza). I have also attended many workshops over the years with teachers such as - Hossam Ramzy, Yasmina of Cairo, Khaled Mahmoud, Paulette Reese-Denis, Afra al Kahira and Morocco of New York to name just a few. I have also attended the Raqs Sharqi Society summer school in Winchester for sha'abi (folk), and have taught at as well as being a student at the annual Celebrating Dance Festival.
I enjoy all forms of our dance, but I prefer the more traditional styles like folk and baladi. I enjoy these styles the most because they are very grounded, earthy and full of expression ( when I hear the mizmar playing I get shivers down my spine!).
