Performance Platform and Open Stage

In 2007 we had to turn away a lot of entries for the Friday night haflah simply because there wasn't time for everyone to perform. So for the 2008 festival we are going to try something new - not only will there will the performance platform on Friday night there will also be the opportunity to perform on the open stage at lunch time in the Arlington Ballroom on Saturday and Sunday. Delegates will be able to choose which day they wish to perform but please note that this is only one spot available for each soloist or group. So if you get a space on Friday night you will not be able to perform in the Arlington as well. This will give everyone who wants to, the opportunity to perform at some point over the weekend. Delegates receive booking information with their information packs and this page will be updated regularly with the names of the performers booked so far and an indication of the number of places still left. If there are spaces left when the festival starts delegates will be able to book additional performance spots when they arrive at registration - please ask for information when collecting your festival pass and wristband.

For 2008 we are also offering a photographic service to all performers. Talented local photographer David Clapp will be on hand to take photographs of your performance and then you will be able to buy the photographs direct from him. More information about this a little closer to the event.

Guidelines

The deadline for sending in your booking slip is 20th October. Unfortunately we are unable to accept further submissions after this date.

Please make sure when sending in your booking slip, that you provide us with contact details for prior to the weekend. In the event that two people book to use the same piece of music we will give preference to the delegate whose details we receive first and contact the other performer for an alternative number. So don't forget to rehearse more than one number!

Please don't assume that because you have danced in the platform in the past that you are guaranteed a space the following year. Everyone has to send their information in *before* the deadline - if we haven't received it then you won't be performing. If your name doesn't appear on the list of performers here and you have sent in your details please contact us immediately - afra@afraalkahira.com .

All numbers must be 4 minutes or less. We appreciate that that is not long, but it is the only way to give as many people as possible the opportunity to take part. Performances are timed, if your music runs over then we will fade it out!

No numbers involving fire or smoke.

All performers must be ready to go on at the start of the segment they are in.

Performers not ready in time will forfeit their spot if they turn up more than two numbers after their official spot. We run to a tight schedule!

Performers should hand in their music (clearly labeled with their name and the track to be played) to the coordinator at the Registration Point when they have checked in to the hotel. You will be able to check where you are in the running order and ask any questions you might have about the arrangements for your performance.

Please bring a back-up recording of your music just in case of problems and note that we are unable to play tapes or Mp3 files - CDs only please.

Whilst we welcome numbers that could be described as 'experimental' or unusual in style, no performances involving lewd movements, inappropriate costuming or sexually explicit lyrics please. If you wouldn't dance it for your pre-teen children or your grandma then it isn't suitable for Celebrating Dance. :-) Celebrating Dance is NOT the place to showcase your talents as a burlesque dancer - sorry!
